Environmental Leadership Project – Riparian Restoration

We were so lucky to work with a great group of people with such diverse knowledge and passions in the environmental studies and sciences. Here are the members of our team:

Lachlan Addicott: I am an Environmental Science major with a Geology minor, and my main focuses are water management and stream health. Water has been an especially big part of my life and I just want to do my best to keep our water sources stable and healthy.

Brianna Ashley: This is my 3rd year as an Environmental Studies major with a Geology minor, I have a passion for ecological and wildlife monitoring, wildlife biology, and helping keep our outdoors in pristine condition. I am originally from Alaska, but I’m always looking for a reason to travel somewhere new and continue my learning in new places.

Elizabeth Baach:  I am a junior majoring in Environmental Science and Spanish with a minor in Biology. I have always loved the environment and have found it to be something that needs protection. With recent rates of habitat destruction and biodiversity loss, it is increasingly important to take care of the world we live in, which is why I am following this path. I want to apply my experience and knowledge to better the environment and prevent future losses.

Emily Bork: I am a senior double majoring in Marine Biology and Environmental Science. I have always been interested in studying how organisms interact with each other and their environment, especially in aquatic ecosystems. Being a part of the Riparian Restoration team has inspired me to pursue a career in restoration and conservation. After graduating this spring, I hope to work for an environmental consulting firm or for a government agency, such as the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Bren Catt: I am in my last year of my undergraduate degree studying Environmental Science with a minor in Geology. Through outreach opportunities in Lane County and on the University of Oregon campus, I have decided on a career focused on environmental justice and inequitable resource use. I am interested in water justice and hope to become involved in water law in the near future.

Madeline Cowen: I am a senior double majoring in Environmental Studies and Geography aspiring towards a career in environmental conservation while advocating for social justice and access. I have a passion for the natural world as well as sustainable agriculture so in joining this team, I’ve been excited to combine these interests. In the future, I’d like to farm and make maps!

Drew Donahue: I am a junior majoring in environmental studies and minoring in food studies and anthropology. I am extremely passionate about the outdoors from my past experience as a search and rescue explorer for the sheriff’s office and expanding my environmental knowledge through programs abroad, such as in Ecuador. I will be pursuing a restoration career in the future and hope to work with communities globally.

Hailey Gilliland: I am a senior majoring in Environmental Science with minors in Business and Geography. I have always been very passionate about the environment and am particularly interested in sustainable businesses practices and restoration. After graduation, I hope to be able to work for an environmental consulting firm or an environmentally conscious company.

Alice Gregg: I am an Environmental Science major with a focus in the life sciences and a minor in psychology. I am fascinated with fungi, lichen and their ecological roles and relationships in forests. After graduating this spring I hope to continue doing restoration and conservation environmental work in forest environments. Later in life, I would love to further my education in fungal ecology in temperate coniferous forests.

Philip Hou: Currently, I am a junior majoring in Environmental Studies and double minoring in Business Administration and Food Studies. I became interested in protecting the environment and sustainability in high school and have tried my best to pursue an educational track towards fulfilling my goals. I joined the ELP because I wanted to get some field experience under my belt before graduating. Post-graduation, I hope to either work for the government or a sustainable business.

Harrison Sattethwaite: I am an Environmental Science major with a Biology minor. I joined this project because I know that stream health is an important part of promoting biodiversity, and maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

Project Manager – Alejandro Brambila: I am a restoration ecologist pursuing a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies in the Hallett Lab at the University of Oregon. My focal department is Biology, where I am in the Institute of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I am particularly interested in plant community dynamics in novel and anthropogenically-dominated ecosystems and in their relationships with different management strategies. I graduated in 2012 with a Sc.B. from Brown University in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Since then I have worked in various capacities related to ecosystem management and restoration including research at the Universities of Talca (Chile) and Buenos Aires (Argentina), and field positions at organizations such as Save the Bay (Oakland, CA) and the Bureau of Land Management (Alturas and Marina, CA).
