Meet Evelyn Thorne, ELAN’s new Chair!

ELAN is excited to welcome Evelyn Thorne as our new Chair for the 2013/2014 academic year!

Evelyn Thorne likes to describe herself as a part-time poet, explorer and radio lover. She comes from the Bay Area of California, specifically San Jose, where she got a degree in Creative Arts and an Art History minor at San Jose State University. There she developed a passion for community organizing and civic engagement through leadership positions in social justice and environmental clubs.  She has since lived in Portland where she strengthened her love of poetry by starting a MetaphorADay twitter as well as her interest in art journalism through running a daily blog on free and cheap things to do in Portland called Portlandia of the Free.

Now she lives in Eugene as an Arts Administration graduate student focusing on Community Arts. Her main interests are in storytelling, facilitation and participatory media. This summer she is furthering those passions through two internships, one as the facilitation and program intern at the Center for Digital Storytelling and the other with the Eugene A Go-Go video journalism team for the Arts & Business Alliance of Eugene. As the past Social Media Chair of ELAN, she is excited to start her second year of grad school as ELAN’s Chair. Her hope is to help ELAN grow its membership through social events, interdisciplinary outreach and increasing member involvement. She looks forward to working with this year’s amazing leadership team to bring another great year of ELAN events. Welcome, Evelyn!
