Make a Scene: Activating Local Arts & Culture Media

On Friday, October 21st, 2011, the University of Oregon chapter of the Emerging Leaders in the Arts Network (ELAN) will host Make a Scene: Activating Local Arts & Culture Media at New Day Bakery (449 Blair Boulevard) in Eugene. Every October, in honor of National Arts and Humanities Month, Americans for the Arts partners with emerging leader organizations across the country to host Creative Conversations, a series of local gatherings of engaged citizens in communities across the country that serve as part of a grassroots movement to elevate the profile of arts in America.

Make a Scene: Activating Local Arts & Culture Media will address how our community can work together to promote local arts and culture media coverage, providing both print- and web-based opportunities and platforms for participation, dialogue, and critical engagement.

Beginning with a panel of speakers – including Rebecca Black and Karen Rainsong from Eugene A Go-Go; Jonathan Boys-Hkd, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Emerging Artist Magazine; Suzi Steffen, independent arts critic and blogger; Dante Zuniga-West, Music/Visual Arts Editor at the Eugene Weekly; and Joshua Finch of Exiled in Eugene – the event will diverge into breakout discussion groups where community members will have the opportunity to engage in a lively conversation about current local arts and culture media coverage, how this impacts our local arts scene, and develop new possibilities for further promotion and commentary regarding arts and culture events in our creative community.

All community members are invited to attend Make a Scene: Activating Local Arts & Culture Media. We encourage you to bring your creativity, ideas and passion for the arts in Eugene to the event for a dynamic evening of arts conversation.
