In the Moment By: Emily Feig After taking multiple women’s and gender studies courses and becoming more politically involved, Monica Nunan, senior at the University of Oregon, felt her next logical step in becoming an activist was to work for Safe Ride and help prevent sexual assault on college campuses. Monica helps spread awareness for sexual assault by working closely with the Women’s Center and the University of Oregon’s Police Department to help others understand how big of an issue sexual assault is. From being elections coordinator to office assistant, Monica, 21, used her connections in the University of Oregon’s student government and was appointed education coordinator of Safe Ride over one year ago. Safe Ride has access to many amenities the University has to offer. They are given private and protected passcodes to gain things such as gas, provided by the University of Oregon Parking and Transportation. The positive and rewarding feedback Monica is able to see and feel from riders and members of the community, reassures herself that the job she is doing is worth while.
