About the Symposium

This event aims to highlight not only diverse scientific research practices but also the diversity of scientists. Our goal is to inspire productive discussion and action toward improving and encouraging diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM at the University of Oregon and beyond.

Proposed by a University of Oregon graduate student and funded by the Biology Department Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, this symposium features three excellent researchers who are devoted to science and to the celebration and recognition of diversity in science. These scientists study a variety of systems – including ion channels, host-microbe interactions, and viral infections – and are outspoken about the importance of highlighting the diverse backgrounds and journeys of scientists.

There is no cost to attend this event, but we ask that you please register ahead of time (by Friday, August 30th if you intend to present a poster). Use the links above to register or to volunteer to help with this event. Free coffee will be provided during breaks by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
