Project #4

This was my first book project every! I am really happy with the way my book turned out, it was quite the adventure, and extremely time consuming, but in the end it was worth all the work.

With this project I wanted to explore the realms of typography through handwriting. Every single person’s handwriting is so different from one another but at the same time shares similarities that us viewers can pick out. Just as you can’t judge a book by its cover, you can’t judge an individual by their handwriting. I wanted to play with stereotypes of handwriting, how people think all boys have scratchy handwriting and girls have nice and perfect handwriting. Those stereotypes are not true and this book provesĀ  it! It is filled with all unique handwriting special to only that individual. Behind each persons writing is a photograph to show you who that individual is. As a viewer you can as your self what first assumptions did you make about that person? And did they change after you viewed the image of that person?

One struggle I had with my book is I did not realize how much the pins that hold the writings to the photographs would cause the paper to bulge up and open up the book when it is laying flat. I don’t think it takes away from the book at all, I think if it were to become an artist book it would just have to have a box that formed to its shape, so not to squish the pages together too much on the top.
