  • General Characteristics:
    The Pacific Silver Fir is a shade tolerant, high elevation species. As a true Fir, the cones stand erect on the branch and do not fall intact to the ground.

  • Leaf arrangement:
    The needle-like leaves of the Pacific Silver Fir are densely clustered on the upper-side of the twig. Notice the several distinct rows of short needles on the top side of the twig. These are in addition to the longer needles that grow perpendicular to the twig. The needles are green and groved above and have stomatal bloom on the under-side. The tip of the needles is rounded and usually notched.
