Pinus contorta
- General Characteristics:
The Lodgepole Pine, also known as Shore Pine, grows very differntly depending on its location. When on the coast, it grows somewhat contorted and twisted and does not reach great heights. In mountain ranges such as the Oregon Cascades, the Lodgepole Pine can reach 100 feet in height and grows remarkably straight.
- Needle bundles:
Needles, which are often twisted occur in bundles of TWO.
- Cones:
Cones may be open or closed.
