- Tree Shape:
The range of tree growth for the Big Leaf Maple is anywhere between 40’and 100′ tall, and between 2’and 4′ in diameter. These trees have large, round crowns (if grown in open areas) and tend to have several large branches within the first fifteen feet of the trunk.
- Palmately veined and lobed leaf:
The big Leaf Maples are notorious for their large leaves which can span up to 12″ in diameter. They are also a classic example of a plamately veined and lobed leaf.
- Samara:
The fruit of the Big Leaf Maple is a double winged samara where the wings diverge at the seed. The seed is often hairy and when mature has a yellowish to tan color. The samara’s wings range from 1.5″ to 2.0″ long.
