Video Conferencing

Many different technologies allow multiple geographic locations to transmit live video, audio, and data feeds to each other in real-time over the internet. The broad term for these different services is “video Conferencing,” but they vary significantly in quality, reliability, and feature set.

CMET Supported Classrooms

The UO Library’s Center For Media and Educational Technologies (CMET) supports a few select classrooms within Lawrence Hall and Pacific Halls. Information pertaining to which rooms are available and the equipment within each is available here.

To schedule, please consult with the Registrar’s Office.

For technical support, please contact CMET at 541-346-3091 if the class is in progress, or submit a repair ticket here.

College of Design Mobile Tandberg Unit

College of Design Technology Services primarily provides video conferencing through the Mobile Tandberg Unit, which includes a camera, omni-directional microphone, speakers, and 42″ LCD display on a rolling cart. This unit is capable of accepting VGA and S-Video inputs for laptops and document cameras, as well as outputting to digital projectors. Depending on the type of end-point device you are calling, this unit is capable of HD (720p) quality video conferencing.

A wired Ethernet port is required for this unit to operate; wireless networking is not available at this time.

Zoom

Zoom is a software based video conferencing..   If you would like to use BlueJeans, please make your request from the UO Service Portal.

Skype & Other Software

There are several options for software-based video conferencing, such as Skype. These are applications that run on your computer and use your internal microphone, speakers, and webcam. The quality of video and audio is generally lower than that of dedicated units such as Tandberg, Lifesize, Polycom. College of Design Technology Services will assist to the best of our abilities, however, we do not have any control over these applications.

Scheduling

To schedule a video conference, please open a help ticket in the UO Service Portal with the following information:

  • Type of Video Conference
  • Originating Location (i.e. Lawrence Conference Room)
  • Destination (i.e. Portland WhiteStag Conference Room)
  • Date, Time and Duration
  • If you will need to connect to a projector, document camera, or laptop.

It is recommended you make your reservation in as far in advance as possible to ensure proper service.
