WHY I CAME TO THE UO AND HOW I CHOSE MY MAJOR
I chose the University of Oregon because it is one of the primary state universities within Oregon, my state of origin, and I felt that it was the best option to align with my interests and professional goals. I really like the sense of community that the College of Design has foster for its undergraduate and graduate students.

Being a Political Science major during my undergraduate studies, I felt that a Master’s in Public Administration would use the foundational knowledge and skills I developed through these studies, building upon them and allowing me to achieve my professional goals of having a positive impact on individuals and communities.

UNIQUE QUALITIES I BRING TO MY STUDIES
Growing up in St. Paul, Oregon, my small-town roots instilled in me a profound appreciation for community engagement and volunteerism. Graduating from a tight-knit class and acting in leadership within my FFA chapter underscored the power of collective effort. I actively participated in initiatives like Red Cross blood drives and the St. Paul Rodeo, learning firsthand the transformative impact of service. Five summers on a local farm during high school honed my work ethic and teamwork skills. Now, pursuing an MPA, I aim to merge my rural background with policy expertise to foster positive change.

MY INFLUENTIAL PROFESSORS
Dr. Erin Beck has been a particularly influential professo. In undergrad, I took two of her courses, as well as collaborated with her as my advisor for my undergraduate honors college thesis. Her guidance and assistance were extremely impactful. It taught me the importance of diligence, perseverance, and adaptability when it comes to taking on large projects, as well as the benefits that can arise from collaboration within the work you do.

MY GREATEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT UO
My transformative journey through the Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon was pivotal in my educational growth. Its interdisciplinary curriculum expanded my horizons beyond my majors and minor, fostering a holistic understanding of complex issues. The collaborative environment empowered me to appreciate diverse perspectives, crucial for addressing real-world challenges. This experience honed my ability to synthesize information from disparate fields, essential in today’s interconnected world. Beyond academia, it instilled a commitment to interdisciplinary thinking and collaborative problem-solving, guiding my pursuit of a Master’s in Public Administration. The sense of community and rigorous academic environment shaped not only my academic foundation but also my approach to professional endeavors in public service, driven by a dedication to bettering communities.

AFTER GRADUATION
After graduation, I hope to utilize my College of Design education to drive positive societal change, particularly in public policy and community development. I aspire to play a pivotal role in crafting innovative solutions to complex community challenges, whether it involves revitalizing underserved neighborhoods or advocating for inclusive policies. With a deep understanding of the interconnectedness between design, policy, and community dynamics that I will have acquired from my Master’s program, I am committed to fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusivity within the field, amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and incorporating their perspectives into decision-making processes.
