WHY I CAME TO THE UO AND HOW I CHOSE MY MAJOR
I applied to the Univeristy of Oregon program because of Dr. Maile Hutterer. I felt her scholarship paralleled my interests in art history. I was also impressed with the overall faculty.

I was accepted into the art history PhD program and was excited to be in a fully funded program with an advisor that I felt would best guide me in the processes of earning the PhD.

I have always loved art history and find medieval art to be thought provoking.

UNIQUE QUALITIES I BRING TO MY STUDIES
I have always worked hard and have had at least a part time job while working on all my degrees. I have worked as a language teacher since 2016, and am proficient in Latin, French, and German. I am currently studying Old English. I also worked with interfaith relations when I was an undergraduate student, and find this has allowed me to apply a nuanced approach to interfaith experiences in the Middle Ages. This will be helpful with my area of research, which explores the influence of the crusades in architecture.

MY INFLUENTIAL PROFESSORS
My advisor, Maile Hutterer, has been an extremely influential professor. She has helped me to grow as a scholar, pushing me to ask deeper questions and be more precise in my line of questioning. She has also assisted me in networking and other important experiences that will allow me to be in a great position for the job market when I graduate.

MY GREATEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT UO
My greatest learning experience has been the opportunity to study Old English and learning how language influences culture.

AFTER GRADUATION
I hope to work as a professor of art history at the college level. My hope is to build students into scholars as well as spark interests in how art and the world shape each other. My program has encouraged me to approach art in unique ways that I hope will inform the courses I teach. I especially want to encourage object focused courses.

YOUR GIFT
This scholarship makes it possible for me to attend the 2023 International Congress for Medieval Studies. This is an incredible opportunity to network and gain feedback on a project I am hoping to publish. Without this scholarship award, it would be financially challenging for me to attend the conference.

Thank you so much for your generosity. I truly appreciate the award and am grateful to not have to worry about the financial burden of this conference. I would love to share about my project, which is about the images in a manuscript that has been often overlooked.
