Why I Came to the UO and How I Chose My Major
I chose the University of Oregon because I am attracted to the department’s strong focus on sustainability and the possibility to explore my interest in the arts in this context. The professors are accessible and produce high-level and emerging research.

I have always enjoyed spending time outside and enjoy being active outdoors. The health of our communities are strongly interlinked with the health of the environment. I am also interested in art and design and think that studying landscape architecture is a fitting link to my interest to shape the environment to help people live better and increase biodiversity.

Unique Qualities I Bring to My Studies
I have a background in studio art with a focus on ceramics. I am interested in 3D printing and have been interested in exploring how soil and clay can enhance our urban environments. I also have a background working in art museums, teaching art, and working at an advertising agency.

My Influential Professors
I have been inspired by Dr. Yekang Ko, associate professor in landscape architecture. She is forward thinking and prolific in her research and international communities. She has inspired me to push my work in unique ways and to consider how my personal interests can benefit urban communities in a hyperfunctional approach.

My Extracurricular Activities
Last year I was the fundraising manager of the American Society of Landscpae Architects UO student chapter. It was important for me to work towards capacity building to increase our sense of community as students and expand our access to the professional field.

My Greatest Learning Experience at UO
I think that some of my best learning experiences have been working in the studios – working closely with my professor and classmates learning how to design, make models, and learn new technology. The interactions and growth that we have shared is really exciting and integral to our learning and professional development.

After Graduation
I hope to find a position at a landscape architecture firm and receive my license after two years of working. I am interested in cultivating a hybrid practice working on research, public art, and landscape architecture.

Your Gift
This scholarship is important to me because it demonstrates the value and support of my education. It provides monetary relief for the piling student loan bills that I have incurred throughout my education. I am really thankful to have received The Jane Kerr Platt Memorial Scholarship Fund and appreciate the support and morale boost that it serves as I head into my final year of study.

Thank you very much for your meaningful gift that supports my educational experience and offers support as I work to reach my professional goals. Supporting education in the field of landscape architecture is important and I feel very fortunate and relieved to have received your donation. Thank you very much for your generous support and I look forward to being able to dedicate and focus more deeply on my studies with the support of your donation.
