Eyrie Horton

This is a photo of me sitting on a chair at the Timberline Lodge in Mt. Hood. This was the last trip I took before starting the program. I love spending time in nature and learning from it.

Degree: MLArch

Expected Graduation Date: June 2022

Previous Degree: B.A. Environmental Studies, Westminster College, Salt Lake City, UT

I’m From: Salt Lake City, UT

Why I Came to the UO and How I Chose My Major
I chose to come to the University of Oregon because I wanted to be in a program that emphasized environmental integrity and social responsibility. Location was also important factor for me because I wanted to be near family members who are in need of my support

Unique Qualities I Bring to My Studies
I have a background in public lands advocacy.

My Influential Professors
Instructor, Jeff Krueger gave me a lot of insights into professional landscape architecture work in the public sector, which is the path I’d like my career to take.

My Greatest Learning Experience at UO
I have really gotten a lot from the breadth of experience of my peers. We all come to the department with such different backgrounds and perspectives. Working with my cohort has by far been the most valuable aspect of the last year and a half.

After Graduation
I hope to work in the public sector in the American West. Specifically, I’d like to work on defensible space, fire resiliency, and flood/drought management. I hope to achieve this while supporting a healthy work and life balance for myself and my family.

Your Gift
This scholarship allows me to focus on the reason I am here at UO, and limits the financial stress so many students are experiencing during the global pandemic. Because of this scholarship, I don’t have to work at a job that would put me in a dangerous position for exposure to Covid-19.

Thank you so very much! It means so much to be a recipient of this award. It is furthering my ability to work toward something important to me and it helps keep me and my family safe in these unprecedented times.
