I Am Originally From Phoenix, AZ

WHY I CAME TO THE UO AND HOW I CHOSE MY MAJOR
I chose the University of Oregon not just because of the Architecture program, but because of how welcoming and kind the people are here.

I chose Interior Architecture because I love to problem solve while being creative. Interior Architecture incorporates a variety of disciplines across product design, architecture, and history.

UNIQUE QUALITIES I BRING TO MY STUDIES
As a nonbinary, queer person who grew up in Arizona, while attending an all girls Catholic high school, I have learned to adapt quickly and take every perspective into what I put out into the world. Before attending the University of Oregon, I learned ceramics, welding and painting. I think my creativity, my past experiences  and my uniques perspective help me to build and collaborate in my studies.

MY INFLUENTIAL PROFESSORS
In the past year I had the privilege to study under Professor Ester Hagenlocher. Ester has a way of bringing out the specific talents in each student. She taught me to embrace my talent and to scale up my thinking. Ester inspired and helped me to find my passion and drive for architecture. Whilst being respected and respectful, Ester brought the creativity and whimsy back into the way I think about design.

MY GREATEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT UO
The greatest learning experience I have had was studying abroad in Italy. I was privileged to be selected as one of twenty students to study during the summer in Italy for eight weeks. I was able to see buildings that I have read about in textbooks for years, churches that took my breath away, and I discovered I have a knack for water coloring.

AFTER GRADUATION
After graduation I hope to pursue a graduate degree and then work in the field. I hope to one day be a professor and use the lessons and knowledge I have gained through theCollege of Design to inspire others.

This scholarship means the world to me. This gift allows me to pursue my degree while perfecting my portfolio and deciding what the next goal is for me. This scholarship strengthens my belief that this is what I should be doing and focusing my energy towards.
