WHY I CAME TO THE UO AND HOW I CHOSE MY MAJOR
I chose to attend the University of Oregon because I wanted an education that focuses on sustainability and environmental stewardship. The architecture program at the University of Oregon is especially well-known for its focus in these areas.

I chose architecture because I believe receiving an education in architecture, and in design in general, is a good way to get a formal education in problem solving. I hope this education will help me think broadly about solving global problems. I also love the idea of creating.

UNIQUE QUALITIES I BRING TO MY STUDIES
I bring a background and deep interest in sustainability. Both of my parents are ecologists and environmentalists and from them I gained an acute awareness of the natural world around me. I’m passionate about making this world as beautiful as I can.

MY INFLUENTIAL PROFESSORS
In spring 2021, I took ARCH 222 with Philip Speranza, Associate Professor of Architecture. I find Professor Speranza to be incredibly inspiring. From him, I have learned how skills and ways of thinking from the field of architecture can be applied more broadly to the world and to other fields.

MY EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am currently not involved in any student organizations. I started college during the pandemic and have been taking classes from home. I have had limited opportunities to discover organizations, but I hope to join an organization focusing on sustainability and another to play music when I move to campus in fall 2021.

MY GREATEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT UO
The greatest learning experience I have had so far is my first architecture studio, which I took completely online.

AFTER GRADUATION
I hope to use my College of Design education to fight climate change. I believe that this education will help me develop the methods of thinking and teamwork and problem-solving skills needed to tackle an enormous problem such as this one.

YOUR GIFT
This scholarship is important to me because it provides support as I pursue my education. It helps free up my family’s limited resources to be directed towards supporting my younger sister. Scholarships are a way for me to cover the cost of my own education, thereby granting my sister increased freedom to pursue her own education and future.

Thank you so much! I love learning and I am working hard to make the most out of my education. I truly believe that what one puts in is proportional to what one gets out, and I am constantly striving to grow and learn. Your support is such a big help. Thank you.
