The Barbara Fealy Student Scholarship in Landscape Architecture

John D. Gray (1919-2012) and his wife, Elizabeth N. Gray (1921-2003), established  this scholarship in 2001 to honor their dear friend Barbara Vorse Fealy who earned a BS in Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois in 1925. Mrs. Fealy moved to Oregon in 1947, where she practiced landscape architecture until 1995, earning the moniker “matriarch of landscape architecture in the Pacific Northwest.” Fealy was the first woman to be elected as fellow to the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1985 and received several honors and awards during the late 1980s and early 1990s for her work at Salishan Lodge, Timberline Lodge, and the Lewis Residence. This scholarship supports upper division undergraduate and graduate students majoring in landscape architecture with special consideration given to eligible students who support the advancement of women in the profession and demonstrate interest and promise in landscape design with native plants and a career oriented approach to landscape architecture.
