I Am Originally From Portland, Oregon

WHY I CAME TO THE UO AND HOW I CHOSE MY MAJOR
I chose the University of Oregon because it was close to home and because of the amazing College of Design. I love the variety of classes that I can take in the College of Design. My first year at school I have been able to take some pretty extraordinary classes. I also love the professors, they have all been amazing!

I chose this major when I went out to eat at this nice restaurant after I my senior night for cheerleading. This place was beautiful! I walked in and thought, “wow it would be so cool to design buildings as my career.” After that I went online and looked into the program at UO.

UNIQUE QUALITIES I BRING TO MY STUDIES
I trained a service in dog before coming to college and it was really amazing. I got to bring her, Kai, to school, teach service dog training classes to my fellow peers at school, and volunteer at the kennel she lived at. When I wasn’t training Kai at the kennel I was in the doggy pool with other dogs in the kennel, taking care of hour-old puppies, or cleaning. It sounds unreal but it was so life-changing and fun. Once Kai went to a home that really needed her, it was a really great feeling and gave me a lot of compassion.

MY INFLUENTIAL PROFESSORS
My writing professor this past year was really influential because he taught me so much about writing and how to not be ashamed of my writing. I always hated writing classes because I thought I was a bad writer but this professor taught me so much about how to write better and how to act like a stringer writer (a freelance journalist, on assignment).

MY EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am in Delta Gamma sorority at UO. I love this because I can be myself with the other girls in my sorority. I am also the house manager. I’m also helping to start an American foundation for suicide prevention at UO. It’s important to me that we spread awareness and raise money for suicide prevention.

MY GREATEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT UO
I work at the daycare on campus, Vivian Olum. This has brought so many learning moments that I will remember forever. I love working with kids and being involved with something bigger.

AFTER GRADUATION
After graduation, I want career that I can enjoy every day when I go to work. I know that will be true since I love design, especially interior architecture.

YOUR GIFT
This scholarship is extremely important to me because it is supporting my way through college. I am from a family of four kids, which means there are a lot of expenses for y parents. I am the oldest, and when my siblings start heading off to college my parents are going to have a harder time managing the percentage of college they are paying. This is helping me, my parents, and my family!

You have no idea how much this validated all the hard work I have put in. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity! You have given me and my family some relief, and I am forever grateful.
