Expected Graduation Date: June 2021

I’m From: Seattle, Washington

Why I Came to the UO and How I Chose My Major
I decided to attend the University of Oregon because of the many opportunities that were presented from undergraduate research to internships. I also felt as if the UO had a tight knit community of staff and faculty that could help me achieve my academic and career goals. What I like most about being in the College of Design is the closeness of the department, I like how I can get help when needed on my academic success.I decided to studyin  PPPM because it was the only degree that provides me with a fulfilling career after I graduate. It is very important for me to work within my community and PPPM provides me with the resources and knowledge I need to succeed.

Unique Qualities I Bring to My Studies
While in high school I was a part of community organizing in Seattle, from working on the annual MLK march to planning a Know Your Rights Campaign. I transferred to UO as a sophomore and prior to that I has worked at the YMCA as a teacher’s assistant, and at the Boys and Girls Club as a program specialist.

My Extracurricular Activities
I completed an internship at the Eugene NAACP where I was able to get hands-on experience working in the community advocating for education and housing.

My Greatest Learning Experience at UO
The greatest learning experience I have had at UO is being a McNair scholar which has afforded me the opportunity to conduct my own research. My research questions are “What are Black American’s perception of the police? And how does that differ based on demographics?” I will  soon present my findings at the University of Oregon Undergraduate Research Symposium

After Graduation
My greatest hopes is to open my own nonprofit for low income underrepresented youth that focuses on preparing them for life after high school and getting them into college. I believe the degree in Planning, Public Policy, and Management has provided me with the proper learning and understanding of the nonprofit sector to achieve this goal in creating a successful nonprofit. I also hope to work toward a Master’s degree in School Psychology to further my goal of helping children in educational settings.

Your Gift
This scholarship is important to me because it helped to solidify that I am on the right path. Receiving this scholarship let me know that everything I have done up to this point is impactful to my community. The scholarship is helping me to achieve my educational goal of being a first-generation graduate and allowing me to continue to help my community.

Thank you for creating this scholarhip and providing me with the opportunity to finish out my studies strong by alleviating the financial burden. By investing in me you have invested in future generations ultimately being a part of generational success.  I cannot thank you enough!
