What is Design Camp?

UO Design Camp is a week-long summer program offered by the College of Design at the University of Oregon in Portland, located at the historic White Stag Block in the Old Town neighborhood in downtown Portland.

At UO Design Camp, students engage in thoughtful creative conversations, hands-on design exercises, and field trips to meet professional architects and designers.


Camp Overview

Be a designer. At the UO Design Camp, you will gain an understanding of the disciplines you are interested in pursuing through exposure to working professionals and the tools and techniques of the trade. You will have the opportunity to make your ideas reality with a hands-on studio project. You will take part in discussions and design reviews that will enhance your understanding and help inform your personal aesthetic.

Meet great people. You will get to know local design professionals and visit firms. You will see award-winning sustainable urban design—here in the city of Portland. Our instructors will open your mind to new ideas and new ways of working in architecture, art, and design. And you’ll make new friends too!

Our instructors. Our UO Design Camp instructors are working professionals in their field, as well as alumni of the University of Oregon. They are passionate about bringing their professional practice to the classroom to introduce the next generation of designers the challenges and rewards of a creative career.

University of Oregon College of Design in Portland

The College of Design offers degree programs in Eugene and Portland.  Portland is an extraordinary urban laboratory for the University of Oregon and the college’s engaged and active students and faculty members. At the White Stag Block in Portland, the Department of Architecture offers the master’s of architecture degree (MArch) and the fifth year of study for undergraduate students enrolled in the bachelor of architecture degree (BArch) program.  The Historic Preservation Program offers a master of science (MS) in historic preservation. The Sports Product Design program offers a master of science (MS) in sports product design, and the Department of Product Design offers undergraduate students a fifth year of study Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Portland.
