College of Design Summer 2018 Update

Message from the Dean

Dear College of Design Faculty and Staff:

With the excitement of our 2018 Commencement behind us, I want to take a moment to thank you for your work and collaboration throughout this academic year. In our inaugural year as the College of Design, we laid a solid foundation for the successes to come, thanks to your energy and dedication.

To our excellent staff who will continue their important work throughout the summer, preparing for our incoming summer and fall cohorts, I want to say a special thank you for your ever-present enthusiasm, optimism, and support for the students, the faculty, and your colleagues. You are a critical part of our community, and we are grateful for the many ways you strengthen our academic mission through your work.

As we look toward the coming academic year, we will continue to prioritize our commitment to diversity and inclusion. As part of this commitment, I am pleased to announce that Gerardo Sandoval, Associate Professor of Planning, Public Policy and Management has been appointed as the first Dean’s Fellow for Diversity. In this part-time appointment, Gerardo will chair the college’s Equity and Inclusion Committee and, working closely with the college leadership team, will play a significant role in designing and leading strategic initiatives, including the implementation of the College of Design Diversity Action Plan. We are thrilled to welcome Gerardo to this role starting in September.

As an academic community, we will also continue our work enhancing research, supporting curricular innovation, and ensuring the success of our students. I look forward to working with you on these priorities as well as on the priorities of your schools and departments in the year ahead.

Thank you all for all that you do, and I wish each of you a wonderful summer.

Sincerely,

Christoph Lindner
Dean and Professor
