Office Workstation Comfort Study

Office Workstation Comfort Study seeks participants!

The Energy Studies in Buildings Laboratory (ESBL) is seeking participants for their Office Workstation Comfort Study! This study seeks to collect extensive participation data to analyze occupant comfort and energy use within an open office environment. Data is gathered under natural and electric lighting conditions throughout the day. Paired with data gathered from sensory equipment, participants will communicate their visual and environmental preferences by completing questionnaires.

The study will be conducted in the ESBL lighting laboratory space in Pacific Hall room 103 on the University of Oregon Campus, spanning January through June 2019. This study utilizes a mock-up of typical open office workstations where participants are asked to engage in desk-based work tasks of their choosing. The study asks for participants to provide survey-based feedback every 2-hours about their visual comfort while working on self-directed tasks; be it homework, personal work, or professional work. As such, participants are asked to bring paper-based and/or computer-based materials of their choosing to work on during their 2-hour study period(s). However, these are not to include leisure or entertainment tasks. (ie. games, personal social media, video streaming services, etc.)

Participants are asked to commit to 2-hour time blocks, up to 8 hours a day. The ESBL is offering $10 compensation for every 2-hour block completed, up to 4 times per testing period. Hours to fall within a standard 8-hour workday (8:00am – 5:00pm). The study is expected to conduct 6 total testing periods between January and June of this year, and participants are invited to return for new testing periods should they wish.

Complete work you’d usually do at the library or in a coffee shop and make some money for your time!
