About LEI

Led by the UO Division of Equity and Inclusion (DEI), the Leadership Enrichment Internship (LEI) is a paid mentored internship experience for undergraduate students with diverse academic interests whose backgrounds are currently underrepresented in such careers.

By participating in the LEI program, students will:

  • Gain real-life experience in a professional workplace.
  • Receive mentorship and supervision from industry professionals.
  • Engage in professional & leadership development both on-site and outside of internship work.
  • Network with professionals in their target field and/or industry.
  • Meet other UO student interns and build community as a cohort.
  • Participate in individual and group discussions and reflections.
  • Gain clarity about their short- and long-term career goals.

The LEI program is a collaborative effort:

Community organizations and campus units provide hands-on internship experience and mentorship capacity.
University departments and administrative units provide enrichment opportunities focused on professional and leadership development, career advisement, and community building.
The Division of Equity and Inclusion provides program administration, workshops, and funding for the intern.

The LEI program was piloted in spring of 2016 and we are pleased to continue this unique offering. We partner with local and regional employers who create internships to support the career advancement and leadership development for underrepresented students.
