Terra received her Bachelor of Arts in Art from Reed College.  After attaining her Bachelors Degree, Terra entered the world of social services, working as a Case Manager for LifeWorks NW and a Service Coordinator for Multnomah County.  As a social worker Terra assisted children with mental health challenges and their families as well as adolescent parents in finding resources and navigating public service systems such as subsidized housing, food stamps, and energy assistance.   While a community-based social worker, her observations of the relationships between the clients she worked with and their environment led Terra to post baccalaureate studies in Urban and Regional Planning at Portland State University.  Taking it one step further, Terra enrolled and recently graduated from the University of Oregon’s Master in Architecture Program.  Following her year with the RARE Program, Terra hopes to find work as an architect that focuses on projects that straddle the fields of planning and architecture.

The City of Tillamook is located next to Tillamook Bay on the north Oregon coast. As the county seat, it is the center of business in the region and the crossroads from which visitors can reach Tillamook County’s many beaches, parks and recreational opportunities.  Tillamook has long been a hard-working community built around the area’s timber, dairy and fishing industries.  Incorporated in 1891, the City of Tillamook is led by an elected Mayor, a City Manager and six City Councilors.

The RARE participant placed with the City of Tillamook will help build community capacity by working with the City and its residents to implement a number of vital community development projects.  Specifically, the participant will work with the City Manger, City Planner and various committees to meet the goals outlined in the City’s Parks Master Plan; help further develop and implement the City’s newly created arts program; and, work with the City to revitalize and reinvigorate Tillamook’s downtown “town center”.
