10/18/23 Lawrence Hall Electrical Shutdown

UPDATE:
To ensure a smooth transition back into the school day, the electrical shutdown has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 18th.  The time will remain the same (5:00 am to 7:00 am).

Scope:  New electrical panel in Lawrence 188 must be tied in to existing, main electrical panel in Lawrence Hall.  Work will be performed early in the morning.

Services Impacted:  This will shutdown the lighting, electrical outlets, elevators, BAS controls fire alarm panels and IT closets within the building.

Special Instructions:  Please shut down and unplug all multi-function copier devices as well as any printers during scheduled power outages. There will be a pre-test on September 6th between 6am and 8am, and a city fire alarm inspection on September 12th between 6am-8am. Both days may involve both audible alarms and lighted strobes during the specified times.

Services Impacted:  This will affect lab exhaust fans 1 and 2, AHU 1 and 2 and the fire alarm system in the Huestis Basement. Glass and rack washers will also be offline.

UPDATE 8/25/23:
Due to electrical conduit installation in room 72, there will some loud actively in an around that space. Anchors will be set into existing concrete ceiling, using powder actuated fasteners. This sounds similar to a fire cracker when discharged. Ongoing work this Friday 8/25 through Tuesday 8/29.

 

UPDATE 8/01/23:
For new ceiling grid installation, seismic cabling will need to be installed into the concrete ceiling in room 72.  This will include powder actuated fasteners.  This work is quite loud and can sound like a firecracker.  We anticipate this noise to continue (off and on) between Thursday, August 3rd, and Wednesday, August 9th, which will affect the surrounding rooms, especially room 175.

 

UPDATE 7/21/23:
Due to ongoing construction for the Heritage Surge projects, there will be activities with elevated noise levels in room 72 on July 24th and 25th, affecting the surrounding areas.  Additionally, the remodel completion date has been revised to the end of August.

 

UPDATE 4/24/23:
This is short notice, but I have been notified that our contractor has some concrete drilling to perform tomorrow, Tuesday 4/25, in room 72.  Drilling will create noise in adjacent spaces between 6:00 am and 12:00 noon.

Start time for the September 7th fire panel test will be 7:00 am with expected completion by 8:00 am.  Alarm sound will be intermittent during this period of time.

The end date has been extended to September 15th to complete a few required activities, including a fire panel test.

The fire panel test will take place on September 7th.  Fire panel sounders will be set off causing loud noise for a short period of time.

2/27/23 Huestis Basement Fire Sprinkler Shutdown

Begin:  Monday, February 27, 2023, at 7:00 am

End:      Monday, February 27, 2023, at 3:00 pm

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Huestis basement

Scope:  As part of the Huestis Hall renovation project, the fire sprinklers will be shutoff Monday February 27 to accommodate ongoing seismic upgrades in the south stairwell.  Fire watch will be conducted by the contractor.

Services Impacted:  The fire alarm system will be offline.

Details:  Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

1/24/23 Huestis Basement Fire Alarm System Shutdown Advisory

Begin:  Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 6:00 am

End:      Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 2:00 pm

Building(s) or Area(s) Affected:  Huestis Hall Basement

Scope:  As part of the Huestis Renovation project, the fire suppression system serving the basement will be shut down to temporarily move pipes to accommodate concrete work.

Details:  Horns, Strobes, and Speakers on the fire alarm system will not sound after the scheduled time. Provisions have been taken to monitor the building fire systems during this time and alarms that occur after the scheduled time should be considered real events and occupants should evacuate as usual per the U of O Emergency Procedures.

1/17/23 Prince Lucien Campbell 3rd Floor Fire Alarm System Work and Testing Advisory

Scope:

  • In association with the remodeling work taking place in rooms 348 and 353, IES will put the fire panel in test mode for the third floor.
  • Harvey & Price will then install fire sprinkler piping in the ceiling space of room 348.
  • Once piping is installed and tested, IES will put the fire panel back on line.
  • GBC Construction will provide fire watch personnel for the third floor during this time.

Scope:  Due to a water intrusion from the roof, the fire alarm was activated.  Crews are currently working to make repairs.

Services Impacted:  The fire alarm was heard earlier in the day.
