10/5/17: Informational Notice Regarding Smell and Fans in Willamette Hall

Building Occupants,

Last night around 12:45 am there was food in the microwave of Willamette 471 that caused smoke in the room.  Custodial opened the catwalk windows on the 4th floor, balcony doors in suite 470, and a few offices.  UOPD requested fans to help with the dissipation of the smell.  Fans have been placed in rooms 470 and 471.

The microwave from 471 was very pungent of smoke and was placed on the secured balcony of suite 470.  This balcony can only be accessed from inside.  As of 6:00 am, the burnt smell had not dissipated as much as we would have liked and the fans, room 471 and balcony doors were left open to continue the dispersal process.

We will continue to monitor the area, and do what we can to improve the indoor air quality.

For questions or concerns, please contact Linda Miller at 541-346-2316.

Informational Notice Regarding Steam Heat Season Start Up

Building Occupants,

With the start of fall term, our Fall weather has arrived.  The question has come up How does CPFM Facilities Services determine when steam to heat buildings is turned on in the Fall and off in the Spring.

To help clarify, David Ward, Building Automation Systems Manager (6-2303) lists below the criteria his staff uses to moderate steam to your buildings.

Please keep in mind, if we turn the steam on or off too frequently each season, it is very hard on the infrastructure serving our building’s mechanical systems.

If we turn on, and then day temperatures reach 70+ degrees, we are all too warm.

Steam is turned on in the Fall when:

  • Night time outside air temperature is below 50 degrees for five consecutive nights
  • AND daytime temperatures are below 70 degrees for five consecutive days

Steam is turned off in the Spring when:

  • Night time outside air temperatures are above 50 degrees for five consecutive nights
  • AND the daytime temperature is above 70 degrees for five consecutive days
