The values that were used today (off of the 20 values list) consisted of the following: Family, loyalty, service, leadership, friends, strong, personal development and accomplishment. The activities I did today consisted of homework, physical fitness, work, and loved ones. The two most important values that I recognized today was health and family. My grandma who is 82 years old has been fighting with health problems and being in and out of the hospital this week. My mental thoughts and activities were completely revolved around her. When a loved one is in pain, it really makes you realize what is important in life.
The belief I inherited from my family are the following, to be loyal, loving, and strong. My family is very tight and close. We are always there for one another, and always will. I grew up in a household that always put one another first, and always loved each other deeply. I have continued over the years to inherit the beliefs that my family had. To be loyal, loving, and strong are still belief patterns that I will continue to have, and always will. Those three values out of the 20 list of values stand out the most to me.
My biggest goal that I hope to pursue in life is to be happy and successful. One day I hope to have a loving and happy family, with a successful job that I love. Until then, I hope to succeed to my full potential at school; I always aim to reach a higher goal. My goal is to get accepted into the business school by winter term, if I work hard I know I will be able to succeed. Sometimes I feel that I push myself to hard and set goals that are difficult to accomplish. I always want everyone who is involved in my life to feel loved and happy

Reflection:

I chose this artifact because I feel that this artifact is one of the most important topics our class has discussed so far. “Personal values matter a great deal. Without them, we cannot live at all, for they are just as essential as air, food, and water and protection from its elements. Without clearly focused values, it is probably impossible to lead a purposeful and satisfying life” (pg. 18). Through this exercise I was able to put meaning to why people pick certain values to stand by throughout their life. On my reflection I realized the reason why individuals pick certain values is because of the people in their life who impact them the most. For example, my family has had the biggest impact in my life, which is why my first value is family. With that being said, the values that individuals pick have a major impact on their life which is what Lewis is focusing on in, “A Question of Values.” The people we choose to be around and have an affect on us as human beings may be one of the biggest leading factors for why individuals choose the values that they do. In the image about you see my sister, mom, dad, and my grandma. These family members of mine have affected the values that I have chose to live by tremendously. With that being said, external factors have a major impact on individual’s values. Furthermore during this reflection I was really able to understand why I have chosen the five values that I hope to continue to let help direct me in life. This artifact is one of the most important artifacts because I am able to understand why individuals pick the values that they do. After taking the time to read other classmates posts I know have a much clearer understanding to why individuals pick the values they do and how external factors play into it.

Future Goals:

For my future goals I would like to stay committed and focused to my top five values and abide by them throughout my daily life. I have posted sticky notes on my bathroom mirror that shows a list of my top five values, as well as the people in my life that mean the most to me. For my future family/career I want to continue to stay focused on what I value and what I care about in my life. Life can be crazy at time, and it is so important to stay focused on what you value and sticking by them. Another future goal I would like to understand is why do individuals pick certain values? Why do those value have significance to that specific person?
