- Examine your own and others values and paradigms of ownership and authorship of cultural media.
Original Post:
This picture represents the stages/feelings an artist may have. To me, these pictures represent my feelings. The middle picture represents the life of the artist and the perspective one has, and the pictures around represent all other feelings.
Reflection:
This weeks TED Talk that related to copyright laws and ownership of media was extremely interesting and important to me. I have always found interest in remixing music, as well as using another artists piece of work to make it into something of your own. However, I believe that copyright laws are extremely strict and prevent our generation from creating something different, regardless if it is not an original. I have always thought about how strict the “permission” laws are on youtube, but I have also never fully understood it. After reflecting on this weeks artifact I truly understand what it means to be an artist. I also have reflected on that fact that I do not believe in the copyright laws that are currently in force. I believe that the original artist should be notified, however completely destroying music that an individual produced doesn’t make sense to me. Taking the time to sit and think of words as well as images, that came to my mind when thinking about art truly helped me understand what it takes to be an artist. I understand that YouTube’s copyright laws are not created by YouTube, however I know that these laws ruin artists work.
Future Goals:
In the future I want to spend more time understanding the copyright laws. I also would like to ask peoples opinions on remixing and if they believe that is art. Taking more time out of my day to create collages that have importance to me (relating to art). I hope to continue to remix music, as well as mix music together. I think that the meaning of art can mean something different to everyone. However, I want to make a change to the current copyright law if possible. I believe that it is ruining our generation ideas on music. Art has the ability to bring joy and happiness. For example to me, I find passion in music as well as listening to original songs, and remixes.
