Creative Project – Skywoman Falling

New Beginnings

Skywoman fell from her home clutching the seeds she brought with her as she both embraces her new life and says goodbye to Skyworld. In this piece I wanted to capture the moment just before she lands in the water, reaching upwards, as a last farewell to her home. There were several animals described in the story, however, I only depict the turtle here as a sort of guardian. The turtle is the first who will greet her in the new life and along with the other animals, create the earth. Everything in the background of this piece is water and a dark sky – dark because that is how it is described in the text:  “A column of light streamed from a hole in the Skyworld, marking her path where only darkness had been before”. Skywoman brings the seeds and the light that will cultivate the earth, before this, there is the ocean and the dark sky.
