Meet Kat
My life has taken me in many directions over time. The newest and unexplored path I am currently navigating is attending University of Oregon. Although my current major is Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies (IRES), I’m thinking of changing it. I believe that my ultimate trajectory will be Cultural Anthropology as a major with a minor in IRES.
My name is Kat Lakey. One of my previous paths in life had me earning my journeyman card as a union ironworker. I am only the seventh woman to journey out of the Ironworkers Local 29 (all of Oregon and Southwest Washingtion.)
In my free time, I enjoy camping, mushroom hunting, gardening, and social justice work in my community. My number one past time is cuddling with my kitty, Allen. This happens whether I have “free time” or not.
Hi Kat! Welcome to your new life at UO! I hope the transition goes as smoothly as possible. Allen looks amazing 😀 and I love the photo within the photo… Looking forward to hearing your contributions to our class. Some of the questions I would love to explore with all of you concern the discrepancy between local/global scales that shape our lives and thinking about how returning to thinking and living on a local scale can potentially be beneficial. I have a feeling you’ll be able to help us navigate this!
All things large are made up of very small things. The wellness of each of these very small things affects the over health of the larger thing. The butterfly effect tells us that seemingly trivial events can have profound impacts. (https://wayne.ces.ncsu.edu/2014/03/the-butterfly-effect/ This is an interesting and short explanation of this theory.)
I’m looking forward to discussing the impacts of global and local civic participation.
