Final Reflection

Final Reflection

Akash Autar

After taking this comparative literature class, I began to come to the realization of how much humans have a connection to the earth, both in a negative way and a positive way. Negative being that us humans are the cause of the worlds current state, being that it will soon be the end of humanity due to our actions. Positive because only we, the same the people who caused the destruction of the world, are the only ones able to able to fix it. After viewing “Don’t Look Up” I realized how much of a connection there is from this world to the movie. While the literal situation is not the same, the actions and sense of urgency that the people express after hearing about their demise, is just sad. It shows how much we really care about the state of the earth and how much people care until it’s too late. For example, in the movie nobody, really cared that everyone will die, in fact, they made a joke out of it. This is similar to reality since we know climate change is upon us, but we still choose to drive that gas car, mass produce goods and millions of other things to further worsen the state of the world. The conservation of the human planet is something everyone and everything thing needs to be informed about to continue living on the only place we can call home. We all should be thinking, how can I save this planet earth, since it would take each and every one of us collectively, to come together and change this world, and that is other question, how would we all come to the agreement. There has already been talk, news articles, books, and movies about climate change but, how much has really changed since then. We continue to get into our car, go to the movie about climate change, then get back into our car and go home. The whole process emitted greenhouse gasses that is continuing the destruction of this world. While these examples of medias are often looked past, they still offer valuable information on answering the question of how to save the earth, or at least what would happen if we didn’t. While movies, literature and such are good, are they really enough? Like I stated earlier, majority of the time it just gets looked past. I believe to make a serious change in this world regarding saving the planet, would be to make serious laws and regulation about how much each and every person can emit greenhouse gasses, from big companies down to the average joe driving to work. After reading an article on the saving of the planet, they begin to describe the intersectionality of it all. They explain how in order to save the world, we must save the people who are still subject to oppression, which we swore that would be irradiated by now. These people who are oppressed would be people of color, women and much more all intertwined, defining intersectionality. In order to save the world, we must save each other.
