The Illusion

By Akash Autar

I call this piece of art, the illusion. This art represents what we see, vs what we don’t see. I sadly am not very artistic otherwise it would be more detailed and better in terms of examples used. On the left half of the art, we see money, women, male figure of God, and waterfalls including in his eye. This side represents what America sees and wants. The male figure of God represents how this society is run by men, and only want money and women, notice the woman is posing in a sext manner since in this world, women are viewed as objects. On the right side we see a glimpse of hell, it’s what America and other well-developed countries don’t see. For example, we see a tombstone, fire and a dead polar bear with a halo representing the effects that climate change has had on this word. And finally notice the man in the middle, Will Smith. He is a black male that represents the people of color that is systemically oppressed since this institution is still run in its white supremacy roots

This piece of art is heavily tied to the movie don’t look up. The left side is what average people see, not knowing the urgency of the situation, and the right is what the scientist will see if immediate action is not taken. Throughout both the movie and reality, even though we explain the severity of the situation, nobody seems to care enough. Throughout the countless novels and movies around the world explaining the urgency, what real action has been taken, we are still on the path leading up to our demise.
