Poor Wifi: a memoir

In my room, once again, the wifi is slow. How is this always the case at the exact moment that I need to submit a paper. It’s actually really funny because that’s the way the world goes. The day you wear white, you spill coffee on yourself. The day you need to get gas, gas prices are up. It’s interesting that life always works against you. Thanks wifi, didn’t need you anyways.

Doing a Skype call for a group project seemed like a really great idea. None of us had to leave our rooms and meet somewhere. Nobody had to put on pants. We didn’t have to bother each other’s roommates by bringing 3 other people over. Convenience was the main goal and that’s what I thought we were all achieving. However, when the wifi in your room cuts out and you cannot get a good connection for an hour, the idea seems pretty bad. Once again, thank you wifi for providing not only a distraction, but a blatant obstacle.

Also when the wifi doesn’t work for your homework and you can’t get it done by 9 pm before your favorite show comes on, it pretty much cancels out any productivity for the evening.

At this point, I’m not sure it’s a distraction as much as a serious issue.

Poor wifi connection majority of the time destroys any motivation I have and then in turn is just one more distraction to deal with. Might as well give up now and never do the homework.

  1. Yesterday I was wearing white, which I never do. I always wear black. But I spilled my coffee all down the front of me as I was walking into work and had to live with a huge coffee stain on my white shirt for my 8-hour shift. Needless to say I was not in a good mood for that shift. I also can completely relate to the fact that your wifi doesn’t work because mine never works and I was trying to watch the Black Mirror episode last night and it just wouldn’t work so I had to wait until this morning. I don’t understand why it just can’t work all the time like obviously I’m going to need it for more than 30 minutes at a time.. Come on Comcast.

  2. Haley, I feel your pain. I have personally experienced each of the scenarios you described on multiple occasions. I’ve simply come to the conclusion that you can never trust Comcast. In addition to your list the big one that comes to my mind is Sunday nights when I am trying to get football tickets. Just thinking about all the tickets I did not get due to crappy wifi makes my toes itch.
