College of Education Commitment to Inclusivity (V1 Pledge Format)

 

As a member of the UO College of Education, I commit to being intentional in living inclusively.

I commit to positioning myself to better understand myself and others.

I will use my privilege positively and know how to use my own discomfort for growth.

I commit to knowing, getting, and doing better than I did yesterday, keeping in mind that my commitment to live inclusively is a journey, not a destination.

 

As a member of the UO College of Education, I will embrace humility by acknowledging that I don’t know what I don’t know.

I will be intentional in exposing myself to difference, without exploiting what I learn or being voyeuristic in the process of learning.

If I don’t know, I will seek out information objectively.

If, along my journey, I am provided constructive feedback regarding a misstep, I will assume positive intent and embrace the feedback as an opportunity to improve.

I will acknowledge and accept responsibility for the mistakes I make without laying blame or making excuses.

I accept that it is my responsibility to increase my own knowledge and understanding so that I am prepared to engage in discourse when, not if, the moment arises.

 

As a member of the UO College of Education, I commit to speaking up, speaking out, and owning my silence, whether or not I am not directly impacted, for there is no such thing as neutrality in our shared journey towards equity, justice and inclusion.

I will strive to accept, and not just tolerate, respect, even if I don’t agree, and to be interested in others rather than judgmental.

I commit to knowing when to offer input, and when to pause and listen.

I will be empathetic to the experiences and perspectives of others.
