Teaching Fundamentals via Zoom

I know many people have been struggling teaching online this past year. There are certainly great challenges, but I must say my experience has been generally quite gratifying, thanks to my hard working students. My large freshman class has made significant progress at the level that is equally (if not more) impressive than normal times.
My 1-hour Zoom lesson closely models after what I would normally do in person: 1/3 fundamentals, 1/3 etudes and 1/3 repertoire. Here is a video example of the first part from lesson I had with Taylor, our freshman general music major, this week. Most of the materials were introduced to her on that day for the first time, but she picked things up exceptionally well. Feel free to play along with the video! It features chromatic scale/arpeggio warm-up, my own daily articulation set, and Jean Jean’s Vade Macum!

International Clarinet Association Warm Up Week 2020

This free event will take place on October 25-October 31, and we will be sharing videos throughout the week featuring different artists discussing and demonstrating their warm-up routines in different languages, including French, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai, Turkish, Korean, and several others.”

Interview with Buffet Crampon #TogetherAtHome

I had a very gratifying interview with Matt Vance, the woodwind product specialist for Buffet Crampon, earlier today. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to share my stories about professional career, various ways to overcome challenges in teaching and performing posed by the ongoing COVID-19, and my visions for the future. I also got to share my testimony on Buffet’s fabulous student clarinet Prodige (#WePlayProdige) and even gave a short performance with the instrument. I hope you enjoy this Webcast!

Covid 19 Challenges

Despite the challenges and uncertainties posed by the ongoing Pandemic, we stay more motivated than ever. We will stay engaged and connected. We will care for each other and move forward. We will continue making progress for both ourselves and the world around us.

Take a look at what our previous term was like here!

This is both very valuable and unique opportunity for Darlene, so please send her some good vibes and best wishes!
