Learn to Code HTML and CSS

If you did not previously take CIS 110 at the U of O, you must complete an online tutorial that covers HTML and CSS. If you do not have time to complete a tutorial, you will not be prepared to succeed in 111.

General Assembly’s Dash is a fun and free online course that teaches you the basics of web development through projects you can do in your browser.

Learn Basic HTML & CSS in These Steps

Complete each step in order:

  1. Watch Learn HTML in 12 Minutes(YouTube).
  2. Watch Learn CSS in 12 Minutes(YouTube).
  3. Sign up for a free account at Dash, and then complete Dash PROJECT 1: BUILD A PERSONAL WEBSITE.

You only have to complete the first Dash project– ignore Dash projects 2 through 5.

Note: If the Dash editor does not function correctly in Chrome, it should work correctly in the Opera and Edge browsers.

When you have completed your personal website, Dash hosts your website on their servers and creates a URL for your website. Email your instructor this URL when you are finished with the subject line “My 111 Dash Project”.

  4. Watch Learn How the Internet Works in 5 Minutes (YouTube).
  5. Don’t forget to email me the URL of your website (rlittle@uoregon.edu). Use “My 111 Dash project” as the subject line.
