Graduate Student Community Builder Award
First proposed by the Chemistry and Biochemistry DEI Committee, the Graduate Student Community Builder Award was established 2022.
The award recognizes graduate students for their exceptional contributions to building an inclusive, supportive, collaborative, and respectful environment within our Department.

Graduate Student Community Builder Awardees
2022 – Alison Chang, Cook Lab, and Arman Garcia, Pluth Lab
Alison and Arman were recognized for their joint leadership in the establishment of the University of Oregon chapter of the Alliance for Diversity in Science and Engineering (ADSE).
2023 – Katelyn Alley, DeRose Lab, and Robin Bumbaugh, Hendon Lab
Katelyn’s award was in recognition of her work in organizing multiple outreach and professional workshop opportunities that helped create an inclusive community for graduate students.
Robin was recognized for her dynamic impact as a generous ambassador for the science and art of coffee in the Willamette Atrium coffee lab, creating a welcoming space that promotes many informal interactions within and across departments.
2024 – Ashley Mapile, Richmond/Scatena and Brozek Labs, and Harrison Reid, Jasti Lab.
Ashley is recognized for important work with the department DEI committee and REU program, among other activities.
Harrison’s award is in recognition of his efforts in organizing community participation in SACNAS and the Catalyst mentoring programs.
