Teaching – Discriminate

Discriminate between SoJo, Advocacy and Soft News and See Themselves As Contributing to the Debate About Solutions Journalism

This course objective allows students to deepen their understanding of solutions journalism specifically and journalism more generally.

In addition to gaining understanding that allow students to create more rigorous solutions stories this course objective offers opportunities for critical thinking about the goals of journalism, the role of the journalist and journalism in a democratic society, and their place in the industry.

Activities and assignments about what isn’t solutions journalism overlap with these objectives. Reflection exercises, such as the Class Journal, play a key role in student examination of the connections between solutions journalism and traditional journalism.
