Microsoft Introduces New Classroom Tool: Office Mix

Office Mix LogoMicrosoft recently released a preview version of Office Mix, a new plugin for PowerPoint that allows teachers to create interactive presentations and share them online with their students.

From the Campus Technology blog:

“The plugin gives educators the ability to record lecture materials directly within PowerPoint and embed multimedia and interactive elements, including:

  • Audio and video of the presenter;
  • Onscreen annotations;
  • Tests and quizzes;
  • Online videos;
  • Polls; and
  • Third-party tools, such as activities from Khan Academy and CK-12 Foundation.”

Office Mix is supported on most web browsers as well as Windows-based tablets (iOS and Android support is currently limited). Web browser access would allow students, who may not own a copy of Office, to view Mix presentations on different computing platforms. Currently, Office Mix is available to download for anyone with a Microsoft account using Windows PCs and Microsoft Office 2013 or 365.
