UO: new Software Download Center

The IT Web site now has a secure and convenient portal for distributing site-licensed software. User authentication and group affiliation is integrated into the site; we can now provide access to our site-licensed software for all UO affiliated students, faculty and staff.

Feel free to visit the Software Distribution site, on the Web page http://it.uoregon.edu/software/list and investigate the new Duckware Software online distribution.

We will no longer be printing the Duckware CDs. The software is available for download from https://it.uoregon.edu/software/duckware

The IT Web site now has a secure and convenient portal for distributing site-licensed software. User authentication and group affiliation is integrated into the site; we can now provide access to our site-licensed software for all UO affiliated students, faculty and staff.

The online software distribution will allow us to stay current with our software offerings, updating packages and adding new software titles as time goes on. The original reasons for the Duckware CD revolved around download times and Internet connectivity over a modem. Though there are still some modem users out there, an overwhelming majority of our network users have some form of broadband high-speed connection.

If network connectivity is an issue, we’ll be happy to provide the oftware on some physical media, whether that’s a USB flash drive or CD or some other available storage mechanism.

Information Services will be working with the campus community to make sure that access to the software distribution site is widely communicated. That access will be tied to the DuckID information, the username and password that unlocks so many other UO computing resources.

Users can now login and download UO licensed software – availability is based on the licensing restrictions of each software.
