Cascades24 Workshop August 5-9 2024
Code of Conduct
(adapted from the SZ4D code of conduct)
All workshop participants are required to abide by the workshop code of conduct. The workshop strongly supports Oregon State University’s policies prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, pregnancy status, age, disability, medical condition, ancestry, citizenship, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or veteran status.
Any violation of this anti-discrimination policy will be taken seriously and reported to Oregon State University. Reports of potential violations can be made to workshop organizers and or the Oregon State University Office of Equal Opportunity and Access (https://eoa.oregonstate.edu/).
Expected behavior
- Treat all participants with respect, valuing a diversity of views and opinions.
- Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative.
- Acknowledge the contributions of others.
- Contribute to an accessible and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Do not make audio/visual recordings of presentations unless permission is specifically approved
Unacceptable behavior in all environments includes but is not limited to:
- Physical or verbal abuse by anyone to anyone, including bullying, harassment,
intimidation, or discrimination in any form.
- Sexual attention or advances, or inappropriate sexual references.
- Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional
setting.
Consequences. Anyone requested to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. Meeting organizers may take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including immediate removal from the meeting without warning or refund, and sending notification to a home institution, the National Science Foundation, and any other funding organization supporting the workshop.
Reporting Unacceptable Behavior. If you are the subject of unacceptable behavior or have witnessed any such behavior, please immediately notify Meeting Organizers Adam Kent and Joe Dufek. Reporting can also be made directly to the Oregon State University Office of Equal Opportunity and Access (https://eoa.oregonstate.edu/). Anyone experiencing or witnessing behavior that constitutes an immediate or serious threat to public safety is advised to contact 911 and locate a house phone and ask for security.
Suggestions for moderators and participants
Moderators are encouraged to:
- Focus their remarks and presentations on synthesis of the field, as well as their own
work and contributions.
- Seek and amplify input from less-heard voices during discussion
- Intervene to maintain respectful discussion if necessary
- Move the discussion along to explore a range of ideas and keep to schedule.
Participants are also strongly encouraged to allow for a wide range of voices to participate in the discussions. A good rule of thumb is to abide by the ‘three-then-me’ approach – allow three other people to contribute before taking part in the conversation again.
