Migration

The migration timeline – although HIGHLY subject to change – is now posted Migration timeline.

Both Blackboard and Canvas will be fully supported throughout this transition period.

Status Update:

July 10, 2015

A little outdated already (we’re working hard and fast for you!) but a lot of good information here in the Blackboard to Canvas Migration Project Status report as of June 5, 2015.

Canvas Migration Report 20150605

Some updates to report (progress between June 5 and July 10):

1. We have plagiarism detection software integrated! VeriCite is now available and the instructions for instructors and students are available here. That’s right – Plagiarism Detection Software is now available and integrated into Canvas! Log in now and create your first VeriCite assignment!

2. We have migrated content from 25,800 Blackboard courses into Canvas. Instructors logging into Canvas will see their current and future courses as well as past courses dating back to Fall 2012.

3. 262 CRNs are being taught in Canvas this Summer term.

4. We are also starting the planning and migration process for non-CRN Blackboard course sites to Canvas. These include the Majors sites, as well as hundreds of custom courses that grew up in Blackboard over 15 years. We will begin by migrating all the sites that currently have Banner-feeds integrated (most Majors sites), then we will start with sites whose student lists are not currently populated or fed by Banner but could be because appropriate Banner data already exists. Finally, we will move to the Custom Sites. More information as we have it…

If we haven’t contacted you about your course site yet, don’t worry. We will! If you have a non-CRN Blackboard course site that you will want to migrate, please subscribe to blog updates in the upper right of this page.

5. Here’s the latest migration timeline. We’re getting close!

Status Update:

April 12, 2015

Phew! What a busy couple of months! Canvas launched on March 30, 2015. As of today, we have 590 courses (CRNs) migrated to Canvas, roughly 25% of all Spring courses.

Empty Summer, Fall Law, and Fall quarter course shells are available for faculty to start building content.

We will start migrating Summer 2014 Blackboard course content on April 20; we anticipate that these course files will be available in Canvas around May 1.

The timeline has been updated as well.
