Logo #1- Northern Arts & Cultural Centre (NAACC)

The NAACC is a venue for performing artists of all disciplines and also encourages development of of the performing arts for communities and professionals.  I really like this logo design!  What drew me to it was the negative space and a strong diagonal line created by the sun/half moon.  The negative space gives the viewer just enough information for the image to be recognizable, but leaves a slightly desirable mystery.  I could almost see the negative space being filled in with a background photo or different color when utilizing the logo for different events .  A strong diagonal of course invokes energy and draws the eye to it immediately.  The gradient was a smart choice I think to add interest to a monochromatic design.  The alignment of the text draws the eye to the converging corner of the “&” which is also emphasized by a white block, differentiating it from the other words.  This text alignment is also very symmetrical from the converging point.  The banner shape of the outline of design was an interesting and smart choice as well.  A common rectangle would have been too similar to the text composition, thus making the text less impactful, so the banner shape adds a nice contrast.

The Metro Arts Council of Southern Nevada is a coordinating body whose vision is to encourage and further the development of the arts.  This is another brand  I like.  The color and simple, bold, geometric shapes drew my eye to it initially.    This design has both diagonal lines as well as a strong horizontal format.  So, the diagonal lines within the geometric shapes that form letters excite and create energy, especially because of the bright coloring.  While the black horizontal texts creates a feeling of calm and stability “grounds” the design.   I like the contrast of the two in close proximity.  The text is center aligned and utilizes two lines to keep the design justified.  I think the kerning of the geometric “MAC” is perfect!  If the letters were any closer they would be too heavy, having extra white space in between allows a little necessary visual resting space.

Orchestra Next trains musicians by facilitating rehearsals and collaborations with professionals and students.  This is another great design.  I think the colors, size of the text, and the clean justification are very successful in this design.  Chartreuse is a visually stimulating color and attention grabbing, especially coupled with the power of black.  The clever arrow created with the “x” really gives a sense of moving forward, such as a student might move forward or advance in their art if they join the organization.  The tight kerning and clean edges make the design clear, concise and powerful.
