Overview
A reoccurring theme that has developed throughout my portfolio is how many of these assignments made me stop to think why I do certain things and why I hold certain beliefs. As I go through life, I often times keep my head down and trudge along hoping that one day I will reach the finish line where I can relax and see what all of my hard work was for. Throughout the creation of this portfolio, it has allowed me to look up and reconsidered values and beliefs that I hold. It has allowed me to question, recognize, and even sometimes change these beliefs of mine. Furthermore, it has opened my eyes to consider new beliefs and view points that I have never thought about before.
The purpose of this portfolio is to show my progress throughout the term and how my understanding of life and art has developed. While I was creating my portfolio, I made sure it was appropriate for all ages. This allows my portfolio to be read by anyone who is interested. During the development of my portfolio, there was certain criteria that I followed. However the four main goals that I aimed to accomplish were:
-
Consider culturally based versus universally based theories of art.
-
Examine the political, regional, economic, technological, religious, ethnic, gender, and generational influences that shape conceptions of art.
-
Consider gender, race, and ethnicity in relation to representation in art.
-
Examine contemporary and historical cross-cultural examples of art.
