Reflection on Learning Goals

1.I want to learn more about typography.

Between the class, the videos, and the texts, I feel like I know significantly more about typography than I did before. I didn’t even know what sans serif meant prior to this course, and now I feel like I have a better idea of how to incorporate different fonts in different designs

2. I want to learn more about brands and marketing strategy.

While I had a general idea of how to make a logo prior to this class, I didn’t really understand the process beyond that. I think the part that contributed to my general knowledge the most was doing the case study and SWOC analysis. It brought to light all of the different factors to take into consideration when running a business.

3. I would like to learn more about Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.

Prior to this class, I hadn’t used either application in at least 10 years, which is the equivalent of not knowing how to use them at all at this point of development. Using the exercises and prompts gave a great introduction for me to get reacquainted with the programs. The template for the InDesign Graphic Standards was incredibly helpful.

4. Improve my design skills.

Going through the process of creating the collateral was a great exercise for me. It forced me to be more aware of functional design rather than design for my own artistic reasons. It forced me to think about designing for someone else and how they would use it.

4. Visual Impact: the overall effect of a visual piece of work, with color, value, and composition influencing the viewer’s response.
