Hello:
My name is Beatrice Byrd. I am a third-year journalism student at the University of Oregon. After moving across the country from a small town in Michigan to Gresham, a suburb of Portland, Oregon, storytelling fascinated me. It quickly became a vital part of my daily life. Journalism represents the heartbeat of society, and that is hugely important.
In my attempts to capture the intricate dance of storytelling, you will find three things in my digital portfolio. The first is a written package confronting the stereotypes that previously incarcerated people face. It is titled “In These Spaces.” Next, “Dirty with the Ducks” photographs the ferocity of the UO Women’s Rugby Team and their sophomore player, Jay Port. Finally, “Holy in One” is a video following a Catholic priest, Craig Boly, as he partakes in one of his greatest loves: golf.
