S1.8 Part I Reflections

S1.8 Part I Reflections

Individually post three take-aways from the review

  • Emphasize key ideas on each slide that hit through 1-2 images immediately
  • Talk on main concise takeaways for each slide an move on immediately
  • Go deeper into the actual realistic interventions that can be made to tackle these challenges (Planting a tree is very expensive, where does the water come from during dry months or drought? Burden on watering system, maintenance)

Individually identify a favorite diagram and timeline graphic from another group and sketch out in ink how to add this to yours.

  • My favorite timeline was that of Sam Hewitt on the topic of Urban Heat Island Effect in Barcelona. He effectively portrayed the subtopics along with a clean timeline of dates at the bottom; however, I would change the color gradients, line weights and connection of different topics for legibility and clarity.

– group: post a revised introduction general and specific paragraphs with highlights by the end of class.

Issue:

The community fabric infrastructure in Marina Del Pratt Vermell is still in its growth stages and hasn’t fully developed a system to effectively facilitate variety of social spaces (cafe’s, markets, community events, etc.).

The current public areas have minimal infrastructure to support interactions between neighbors and has segments of unused or undeveloped spaces that could engage the community more.

Who:

Seniors and children are the most vulnerable populations to the creation of a safe and healthy streetscape gradient.

There is an intergenerational connection between people that needs to be addressed in the creation of spaces that can facilitate these interactions, such as the after school care of grandparents for their grandchildren.

Why:

An intergenerational support system creates a cycle that allows families to coexist and thrive with one another, thereby keeping the community more unified and discouraging the effects of gentrification.

The urban ecology of the street level building front and its extension into the public space needs to be controlled and maintained largely by the community rather than external sources.

– notes on revised theoretical framework including revised subtopics and qualities. *Mass data collections coming as early as Monday and circle diagrams for deficiencies.

The theoretical framework and indicators are largely well developed. We would like to go into some of the more specific indicators that are most important to tackle this issue including: the accessibility to address, lived-in balcony, and street buffer/safety.

– revise all research questions and goal sentences including points-in-time, Arduino sensor study, CLT, programming related to Cynthia’s regeneration and transformation.

What are effective methods to bring together neighbors of the community in third spaces that can facilitate interactions?

How can the streetscape create a dynamic that allows mobility while creating a effective infrastructure to support families?

– notes on timeline revisions to be done next week.

The timeline should have more clarity distinguishing the subtopics of social, political, biophilia. The organization should have the dates on the top and rows for each topic below.
