Research question/s

– Tigard Next step closest to your idea (paste here)

“Landscape Architecture: Playground: select species, location and placement of vegetation to screen PM.”

– finding from other reading

“Finally, it should be taken into account that the plant roofs of buildings, as well as the vegetation in schoolyards in general, can provide other important benefits such as reducing noise pollution and temperature, energy savings, improving biodiversity and aesthetic value (Abhijith et al. 2017) .” – ASPB-recomanacions-reduir-contaminacio-aire-escoles_barcelona_en

– student research question/s

Are children less effected by air pollution when close to vegetation of any kind. This goes for both inside and outside the classroom.

– student theory about air quality effect and urbanism in one sentence

Students close to vegetation of any kind are less effected by air pollution due to the absorption factors of some plants.

Plan project for measuring Pm and other information is measured, season / point-in-time, location, comparison baseline areas, pilot study:

– student hypothesis of spatial relationship and problem to measure

If children are closer to cars and further away from vegetation, then they will be effected by air pollution at a higher level.

– student point-in-time 1 and point-in-time 2

  1. Measure air pollution near vegetation like a urban garden. 2. Measure air pollution near street with cars or mass travel.

– student location

In this case schools? In my study I would be more interested in measuring in apartments and then out on the street where people would be buying food and walking.

– student baseline location in City

I think it would be interesting to compare Barcelona to somewhere like Seattle or Portland where we consider it to be greener. Somewhere where urban community gardens are more prevalent.

– student lab study

Put a senser next to a plant and a senser next to something that emits pollution?

– student pilot

I don’t know what this means

– student final study at Marina del prat Vermell

I would like to take one measurement near a street and one near a green space or community garden.

What input sensors other than Purple Air (they use PMS7003) are possible?

– maybe how many cars pass each area like a motion senser that only tracks cars not people?

What study plan is possible?

– Educate students about pollution in there area. Where pollution is higher and where it is lower.

Design Sensors for Architecture and Urbanism

SITUATED TECHNOLOGY IN THE URBANISM AND ARCHITECTURE AT SPACE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 7 years old

Where and how many PM sensors could be located in the future project?

– 8 on the street and 8 in the garden area near the west end of Marina.

OUTPUT

Where could that information be displayed and to whom?

– Walking paths where pollution is less like next to the park and away from the cars.

What expected behavioral change is possible?

– More people will talk where there is vegetation and less where there are cars.

What responsive technology could activate and to what purpose?

– There could be lights at night directing you down the path of least pollution.

How is it communicated abstractly and comparative / absolute values (ex. color, light, time, etc), who uses the information and how do they make behavioral changes and or responsive technology changes.

– I don’t know

Next Steps
– Purple Air at La Chalmeta coop housing (2+ sensors)
Setup for collection immediately after Easter break. How can these sensors low and how and possibly others in other housing around Marina be used:

– I don’t really know what this means
