S1.2 Topic Issue Part 1 Research
Due for grading Thursday, April 17th. Studio and Media grade will be slides 1-6. Cynthia’s seminar grade will be the timelines. 30% per GEO COD Approved Syllabi Barcelona Urban Design 2025.

Deliverable: 5 pages plus 1 timeline per student (general and fun per article)as one collage poster. Where and what. (landscape collage underneath of timeless images of MdPV.) Both slides and poster. Add slide #6 for children and air quality research! 8 total slides.

Slide 1: Conceptual image; set the color palette (subtopics); consider powerful quote; Project title and subtitle “Marina del Prat Vermell; your names.
Slide 2: 1) General paragraph of What, Who, and Why Important (3 sentences only); 2) Specific paragraph of What, Who, and Why Important (3 sentences only). More conceptual images perhaps by subtopics and for shadowing qualities.
Slide 3: Infographics with data that will lead to Qualities and indicators, and to your timeline data; diagrams; vertical bar charts. Must draw your own! You can review Cynthia’s class. All of this leads to design criteria for later data collection and social (Fine-grain urbanism) or environmental (Ladybug and sensors) data analysis).
Slide 4: Emergent ideas through relates Newspaper articles, key infographics (can repeat) and quotes from the Readings 07 list and Cynthia’s Slides on Teams.
Slide 5: Theoretical Framework including color palette, icons, visual language for qualities or indicators used and disused.

Slide 6: Air Quality and Children. We met Jordi Sunyer today! Research diagrams and relationships of the previous work using Readings 06 Air Quality. Especially pay attention to Tigard Air Quality and Urban Design Report “Next Steps” on pages 13, 14 and 15. Again, this will setup design criteria for data collection and analysis. As a concluding speculation consider Cynthia’s approach of Regeneration / Transformation that relates various systems (social, environmental, political, technological) as opposed to Sustainability or Resilience.

Homework for tomorrow’s class at noon: Topical Issues
Have fun with the timelines! Make axis and visual languages. Match above! I might suggest sketch by hand in ink with thin and thick pens/markets, and maybe a touch of ink wash. Consider Minard Napoleon’s Invasion of Moscow. *Please put your individual name at the bottom of the slide you worked on so I can provided individual assessment and help.
