In his article, “Cities from the Bottom Up: 22@ Planning, A System Attached to Change”, Speranza writes about the initiatives of change within Barcelona’s neighborhoods as they pertain to a bottom-up organization of urban planning and design. As cultural events and ever changing phenomenon shift throughout the seasons, it is important to think about the modes of attaching architecture in the context of scale and time. One very interesting point I felt relevant to the topic of urban caring is that of “adaptive and precise units”, which create space for events and phenomena not yet existing in the contextual sphere. Creating space which may be a purposeful blank canvas while simultaneously accentuating the existing phenomena will allow users to utilize the space to its full abundance. Ida Yazdi’s project on Sound Attenuation may work as an important precedent as we analyze the effects of sound on user health and wellness as well as sound potential.
